Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative during an attack near Vermand on night 12-13 September, 1918. He took command of his platoon and under heavy machine gun fire, led his men on to the enemy trench. He then led a patrol out to gain close touch with the enemy, and, finding that a number of them had gained a footing in the trench on his right, he at once placed his platoon in such a way as to hold the enemy until reinforcements arrived.'
