Military Medal 'During the attack North of ROSIERES on the 9th August 1918 Lance Corporal GRATTIDGE was in charge of a Lewis Gun Section. Throughout the attack a battery of 77's (Field Guns) on the ridge in front were a great source of trouble knocking out the tanks and inflicting many casualties. Lance Corporal GRATTIDGE led his section in Company with Lance Corporal RIGBY and his section, forward of the line along an old communication trench, clearing the trench as they went until they could get a fire position at close range on to the field battery. Although under heavy fire to bear on to the battery and knocked out the gunners, putting all the guns out of action and enabling the line to advance. His courage and initiative saved many lives and greatly facilitated the advance.'
