Military Medal 'During the operations north west of POZIERES, 29th to 31st August, 1916, the work of Signaller LONG was the means of keeping the Battalion in telephonic communication with Brigade Headquarters> in his duties as a linesman he would go out regardless of heavy shelling by the enemy and patrol his lines, making repairs and putting down new lines at any hour of the day or night. In one period of ten hours he repaired eight consecutive lines, as shell fire continually broke them down.'
