Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near RAINECOURT, east of AMIENS, on 8th August 1918. He was sent with a patrol to reconnoitre the strength of the enemy. An enemy machine gun opened fire on his party at close range. Corporal PIERCE dashed forward alone and captured the gun, killing three of the enemy and taking eight prisoners.'
