Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the enemy had succeeded in penetrating our front line this officer at once charged, killing one officer and three men. He also wrested a machine gun from the enemy, and used it on them as they withdrew. Though wounded early in the action he remained on duty. He did splendidly.'
