Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in charge of a section of a raiding party, he controlled his men with wonderful coolness and ability. He led them to the attack of two large dug outs, both of which were successfully bombed, and his initiative and personal example brought his portion of the raid to a successful conclusion.'
