Military Medal 'During the attack east of YPRES on 20th September 1917, Pte. SEXTON as a Company Signaller, was detailed by the Company Commander to remain with him. He was eager to get ahead and when the Blue Line was captured he immediately endeavoured to get into touch with the flank companies. When the wire came down a little later he and another signaller did duty in turns right through. Wherever the wire was broken he would report the fact and move off to re-establish communication, regardless of the enemy's barrage. Later, when the wire became useless, he carried messages back to the Battalion Headquarters. On one occasion he was given a message to take back, and at the same time was given instructions to remain at Headquarters as his feet were in a bad condition and very painful. When he arrived he was told that his Company was in touch by wire but five minutes later the wire was again broken by the heavy barrage of the enemy. Despite his instructions he immediately set out to repair the break, and after completion reported to his Company Commander for further duty.'
