Military Medal Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 15 Date: Bar to Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack by 58th Battalion on PERONNE on 2nd September 1918. This N.C.O. although a Signaller took a very active part in organising and leading men in the attack on enemy posts. He showed great dash in leadership and greatly inspired men near him with his bold and offensive spirit. In one instance by sheer audacity single handed he chased a party of the enemy and succeeded in capturing them. As soon as the final objective were gained under heavy shell fire he established a signalling relay post and kept up communication between the Company and Battalion Headquarters under extremely difficult circumstances. His splendid example of gallantry, determination and devotion to duty was admired by all.'
