War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Statement, Red Cross File No 2790207R, 6265 Pte J.C. FORSYTH, B Company, No 6 Platoon, 9 June 1917: 'We were at Bullecourt on the 11th April/17 and at 6 a.m. went over the top to make an attack. We took the 1st German line of trenches. Sergts. Police (who was in charge of my Platoon) and Tudor (who was Sergt. of my Section), were with us. The Germans counter-attacked and we had to retire and when we were retiring I saw the 2 Sergts. still in their trench and I am pretty certain they did not get away and must have been taken Prisoners. Neither of them, so far as I know, were wounded. I never saw either of them again.' Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Euripides', 3 March 1919; disembarked Fremantle, 10 April 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Perth, 20 June 1919.
