Military Medal 'No. 3140 Renfrew A. showed the greatest bravery and coolness in collecting wounded from the area of the enemy standing barrage during the early party of the action at POLYGON WOOD on 26th and 27th September. The work was carried out under continual shell fire at great personal risk. he organised and supervised temporary squads to carry out the work and was responsible for saving many lives. In the latter part of the action this man also organised and controlled parties of bearers for clearing the front line system. Until about 5 a.m. on the mornings of 27th, when he reported the line clear of wounded, Private Renfrew worked incessantly in the interests of the wounded.'
