'On 5th and 6th April, at BUIRE near ALBERT, this man displayed great courage and devotion to duty whilst acting as a linesman. For the greater part of two days, he was continually repairing telephone lines under heavy artillery fire showing an utter disregard of danger and fatigue. The cheerful and willing manner in which he worked under the worst possible conditions were of great value in maintaining the morale of all his comrades.'
