Whilst loading limbers the enemy placed heavy shelling in the vicinity. His officer was seriously wounded, and one horse was killed; he immediately took charge of the situation, attending the wounded, and in spite of the shelling, carried on the work. His splendid example had an excellent effect on the remainder of the men.'
