Military Medal

'For gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations against the HINDENBURG LINE East of LE VERGUIER on the 18th September 1918. Whilst loading limbers the enemy placed heavy shelling in the vicinity. His officer was seriously wounded, and one horse was killed; he immediately took charge of the situation, attending the wounded, and in spite of the shelling, carried on the work. His splendid example had an excellent effect on the remainder of the men.'
