War service: Egypt, England Admitted to Detention Hospital, Abbassia, 10 August 1915 (venereal disease). Commenced return to Australia, 25 September 1915. Returned to duty, 3rd Military District, 9 October 1915. Re-attested as No. 6644 owing to loss of original attestation papers, and subsequently allotted to 14th Bn, 15th Reinforcements; failed to re-embark from Adelaide on board HMAT 'Anchises', 16 March 1916. Embarked from Melbourne on board A71 HT 'Nestor', 2 October 1916 (6th Bn, 21st Reinforcement); disembarked Plymouth, 16 November 1916. Found guilty, 15 January 1917, of (1) appearing on parade with hair longer than allowed by regulation; (2) appearing on parade improperly dressed. Awarded 3 days' confinement to camp.
