Military Medal 'On the afternoon of 27th September, 1917 in POLYGON WOOD near Ypres this N.C.O. was left in charge of Bearers while Sergeant THOMAS H.C. went forward to locate the new R.A.P.s while on this duty he went out under heavy shell fire dressed, and brought in three men who were wounded and got them evacuated and by his example and courage inspired his ment to carry on in face of heavy fire and under greatest difficulties. This N.C.O. had been continuously on duty since the night of 25th/26th September, 1917.'
