Military Medal 'Early on the morning of 29th September 1917, a stretcher squad set out from the BUTTE on the East side of POLYGON WOOD. This squad failed to return . At 2 a.m. fearing that something had happened Lance Corporal Flynn, although POLYGON WOOD was then under very heavy fire, set out through this area in search of his comrades. He finally discovered the squad had become casualties, and by his aid the wounded were go back to safety at the next Relay Post in GLENCORSE WOOD. Again on the morning of 1st October 1917, when his unit was being relieved, Lance Corporal Flynn came across a party of wounded being led to the Relay Post by a wounded Officer. he although relieved at once volunteered as a guide to the party and brought them safely through a heavy barrage, during which he himself was wounded, to the A.D.S. at MENIN HOUSE.'
