Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 4 November 1915; taken on strength, 16th Bn, Gallipoli, 13 November 1915.

Disembarked Alexandria from Mudros, 30 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 9 June 1916.

Found guilty, in the field, 6 July 1916, of neglect of duty: awarded forfeiture of 3 days' pay.

Wounded in action, 10 August 1916 (shell shock), and admitted to 1st Anzac Rest Station (7th Field Ambulance); discharged to duty, 13 August 1916; rejoined Bn, in the field, 15 August 1916.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 29 August 1916 (shell shock, abrasions left leg), admitted to Corps Collecting Station, and transferred to 44th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to Ambulance Train, 30 August 1916, and admitted to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 31 August 1918. Transferred to England, 13 September 1916, and admitted to Kitchener's Hospital, Brighton, 14 September 1916. Transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 12 October 1916; discharged on furlough, 16 October 1916, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 31 October 1916.

Found guilty, Perham Downs, 3 February 1917, of being absent without leave from 2 pm, 24 January, to 7.15 pm, 1 February 1917: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of a total of 17 days' pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 25 April 1917; rejoined 16th Bn, in the field, 30 April 1917.
