War service: Western Front Embarked Adelaide on HMT 'Ballarat', 12 August 1916; disembarked, Devonport, 30 September 1916, and marched into 13th Training Bn, Codford. Found guilty, 11 October 1916, of overstaying leave from 1 am, 9 October, to 4.30 pm, 10 October 1916: awarded 168 hours' detention; forfeited total of 2 days' pay. Embarked Folkestone on SS 'Princess Victoria' and proceeded to France, 4 December 1916. Marched out of 4th Australian Division Base Depot to join unit, Etaples, 24 February 1917; taken on strength, 50th Bn, 26 February 1917. Wounded in action, 2 April 1917; admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 3 April 1917 (gun shot wound, left thigh and burn, right thigh), and transferred to 9th Casualty Clearing Station; to 13 General Hospital, 4 April 1917. Proceeded to England from Boulogne, 8 April 1917; admitted to Passmore Edwards Hospital, 8 April 1917; transferred to Edmonton Military Hospital, 9 July 1917; to No 3 Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 3 August 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 6 August 1917.
