Military Medal 'This runner displayed great courage and coolness during the attack on MT. ST. QUENTIN, near PERONNE on 31st August, 1918. Throughout the day he carried messages from his company to Battalion Headquarters under intense enemy machine gun fire and shelling. He repeatedly moved across the swept areas with utter disregard for his personal safety, his determination and devotion to duty resulting in the prompt receipt by Battalion Headquarters of important information regarding the progress of the attack. His bravery was most conspicuous.'
