'For consistent gallantry in action. On 28 September, during the operations near Bellicourt, he was acting as a linesman, and maintained communication for a period of thirty six hours under heavy fire. He also displayed great courage in subsequent operations on the Beaurevoir line at Bussigny and at St. Souplet, in charge of a gun detachment.'
