'At WESTHOEK RIDGE near YPRES on the 14th September 1917. During a very heavy enemy bombardment this N.C.O. organised a carrying party and personally supervised the removal of a large Dump of S.A.A. from a Shelled Area forward to a place of safety. By his quick action and coolness he set a stirling example to his comrades and saved much material from destruction.'
