Military Medal 'At HOOGE, FRANCE on 20th September, 1917, during the advance of GLENCORSE and POLYGONVELDE WOODS, Cpl. FOWLES who was in charge of a Lewis Gun Section, although wounded, led his men forward from the assembly position to the final objective and took up a prominent position to give covering fire to his Company. He remained at this post until he became exhausted when he was relieved and ordered to return to the Aid Post. His splendid courage and devotion to duty won admiration from all.'
