Military Cross 'During the period 29th September, 1st October 1918, in the attack by the battalion on the Hindenburg line, at Bellicourt, and the advance to Joncourt, he showed great courage and initiative. After his company commander was killed he assumed command, and for the remainder of the three days led them with great skill, taking and consolidating his objectives in face of heavy machine gun fire. He showed great powers of leadership.'
