Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 2 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 8 June 1916.

Wounded in action and admitted to 4th Ambulance Train, 4 August 1916 (gun shot wound to right thigh); transferred to 23rd General Hospital, Etaples, 6 August 1916; discharged from hospital and marched in to 4th Australian Division Base Depot, 17 August 1916.
