War service: taken on strength of unit, Rabaul, 20 November 1915. Proceeded to Kokopo for duty, and struck off strength of unit, 3 January 1916. Fined 10/-, 18 February 1916 (offence not recorded); fined 2/6, 18 February 1916 (offence not recorded).

Returned to Australia on furlough, 1 January 1917; embarked from Sydney to return to Rabaul, 14 March 1917.

Departed Rabaul for return to Australia, 11 April 1918, and struck off strength. Returned to Rabaul from Australia, 25 July 1918, as Gunner, AN&MEF, and resumed duty at Matupi Battery. Appointed Acting Bombardier, 5 December 1918. Found guilty of failing to attend a parade when ordered to do so, 14 February 1919: awarded severe reprimand and returned to duty as a Gunner. Found guilty of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline, 4 April 1919: awarded 7 days' detention.

Commenced return to Australia on board SS 'Melusia', 20 May 1919. Discharged in Sydney, 2 September 1919.
