Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in action East of YPRES on 12th October 1917. He led his men through heavy shell and machine gun fire to the most advanced position, and endeavoured to keep down the enemy's fire which was exceedingly heavy. when the advance of the Battalion was ultimately held up, he took charge of the men and kept them under complete control in spite of the adverse conditions and supervised the consolidation of the line. His confidence and fearlessness in a most difficult situation had a most inspiring effect on the men.'
