War service: Western Front Embarked Fremantle, 13 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 12 December 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 8 February 1917; taken on strength, 16th Bn, 13 February 1917. Reported prisoner of war, 11 April 1917; interned in Limburg, Germany. Sent postcard, 14 May 1917: 'Send food: tinned bread, biscuits & syrup. There are quite a lot of our boys over here as well as in the barbed wire & No Man's Land. Parcels to prisoners must be sent through Red Cross & must not exceed 7 lbs in weight.' Arrived in England as repatriated POW, 4 January 1919. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Euripides', 3 March 1919; arrived Fremantle, 10 April 1919; discharged, 31 May 1919. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
