'At the attack on DOIGNES on 2nd April, 1917, Private FREEMAN showed great bravery and coolness throughout the whole action in collecting spare men and taking command of them. He took over and held an important position with a Lewis Gun when others had become casualties, and maintained position under heavy artillery fire until reinforcements arrived. his devotion to duty was exemplary.'
