Found guilty by General Court Martial, Sutton Veny, 19 September 1919, of abseting himself from No 2 Group from 22 August until surrendering himself at London on 10 September 1919. In his defence BAILEY stated: 'I have made a fool of myself. I got the worse for drink and although I fully intended to come back next morning I was too ashamed of myself to do so. When I recovered myself again I surrendered to the Corporal of the Guard Warwick Square at midnight on the 9/10th September 1919.' Sentenced to loss of seniority and precedence: appointment as Lieutenant to be from 23 September 1919; and to be severely reprimanded.

Commission cancelled for Absence without Leave, 1 April 1920.

Deemed not eligible for War Medals.

Restoration of medal entitlements recommended by Board, 20 June 1923.
