War service: Western Front Embarked Adelaide, 10 February 1917; admitted to ship's hospital, at sea, 27 March 1916; discharged from ship's hospital, 30 March 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 2 May 1917, and marched into 13th Training Bn, Codford. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 August 1917. Found guilty, 17 August 1917, of being absent wihtout leave from 9.30 pm, 16 August, until apprehended at 9.55 pm, 16 August 1917: awarded forfeiture of 1 day's pay. Wounded in action, 14 October 1917 (gun shot wound, head); admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 16 October 1917; transferred same day to 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, and thence to 38th Stationary Hospital, Calais; to 7th Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 19 October 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 25 February 1918. Marched in to 7th Stationary Hospital on escort duty, 26 February 1918; marched out to Base Depot, 27 February 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 29 February 1918.
