Wounded in action, 12 December 1915 (shell wound; left leg amputated, Walker's Beach, Gallipoli. Evacuated to Mudros, 12 December 1915; to 19th General Hospital, Alexandria, 15 December 1915; to No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 31 January 1916. ). Discharged, 31 December 1916.

Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

Reported in the press to be wearing the Distinguished Service Order ribbon and to have been Mentioned in Despatches: there is no record of such decorations on his file.
