Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Although knocked down and badly shaken by a shell, as well as being gassed, he went forward with the attacking waves and carried important despatches, through intense artillery barrage, collapsing from exhaustion on his return.'
