Embarked Sydney for active service, 1 August 1917; transferred to SS 'Orita', Nova Scotia, 21 September 1917; disembarked Liverpool, 3 October 1917; marched into 4th Training Bn, Codford, 3 October 1917; marched into 13th Training Bn, 3 November 1917; absent without leave: no action taken, 16 November 1917.

Admitted to Group Hospital, 26 November 1917 (haemorrhoids); discharged to unit, 28 November 1917; absent without leave, Codford, 8 January 1918; returned to duty: no action taken, 15 January 1918. Proceeded to France through Southampton, 23 January 1918; marched into Australian infantry Base Depot, Havre, 24 January 1918; moved into the field, 29 January 1918; taken on strength of 16th Bn, 29 January 1918.

Admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance, 23 March 1918 (mumps); transferred to 7th General Hospital, St. Omer, 24 March 1918; discharged to duty, 18 April 1918; marched into Australian Infantry Base Depot, Havre, 20 April 1918; moved into the field, 24 April 1918; rejoined unit from hospital, 27 April 1918.

Wounded in action, 9 August 1918; admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 10 August 1918 (gun shot wound, head and chest). Embarked Boulogne on HS 'Stad Antwerpen' and proceeded to England for further treatment, 14 August 1918; admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston, 15 August 1918; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 30 August 1918; discharged on furlough, 16 September 1918. Marched into No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 1 October 1918.

Admitted to No 2 Group Hospital, Hurdcott, 20 October 1918 (influenza); discharged to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 24 October 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Demosthenes, 16 January 1919; disembarked Fremantle, 26 February 1919. Discharged Perth, 21 March 1919.
