Military Medal 'On the morning of the 11th April 1917 near BULLECOURT Sergeant GARNER was in charge of two guns which he had successfully mounted in a commanding position in our front line and displayed excellent qualities as a machine gun Sergeant in bringing his fire to bear on retreating enemy. On his position becoming untenable he directed the retirement of his men across an exposed piece of ground successfully, into the rear lines, where he made all preparations for further resistance, which, being impossible when the retirement commenced, he put his gun out of action before abandoning it. This Non Commissioned Officer is hereby recommended for his devotion to duty and distinguished conduct throughout the whole operation.'
