Proceeded overseas to France, 19 April 1917; marched into 3rd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 20 April 1917. Proceeded to unit, 23 April 1917; taken on strength of 43rd Bn, in the field, 24 April 1917. Detached to Trench Mortar School, 29 September 1917; rejoined 43rd Bn, 31 October 1917. On leave to England, 13 January 1918; rejoined unit, 16 February 1918. Found guilty, 18 February 1918, of being absent without leave from 0730 hours, 28 January 1918, until 0730 hours, 15 February 1918: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and total forfeiture of 47 days' pay.
