Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He organized a bombing party, and succeeded in repulsing an enemy counter attack. By his cheerfulness, bravery, and coolness, he set a splendid example to all ranks.'

He led forward a section to the attack on an enemy machine gun post which was holding up the advance, capturing the gun and destroying the garrison. During the consolidation he displayed the greatest coolness and disregard of danger under intense fire, and set a magnificent example to all.'
