Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 21 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 27 March 1916; taken on strength, 25th Bn, 22 May 1916.

Wounded in action, 29 July 1916 (gun shot wound, head: severe), and admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; transferred by Ambulance Train to 13th General Hospital, 31 July 1916; to England, 13 August 1916, and admitted to King George War Hospital, Stamford Street, London (date not recorded); transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford (date not recorded).

Commenced return to Australia from Southampton on board HT 'Kanowna', 12 September 1916; discharged (from 6th Australian General Hospital)(medically unfit), 17 January 1917.
