Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty. Near VILLERS CARBONNEL on 29th August 1918 during the advance to the SOMME Private GARTNER displayed exceptional courage in attending to wounded in the open under heavy field and machine gun fire. He set a fine example and showed a great disregard for personal safety.'
