Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took command of his companyand handled it in a most skilful manner in an attack. Always amongst his men he was able to dig out several who were buried by shells, and during five days in the line, under the heaviest of barrages, his conduct and example were an inspiration to his men.'
