'East of YPRES on the 22nd September, 1917, after having worked continuously for the previous 24 hours carrying messages in the shell area though very fatigued he readily and cheerfully conveyed a message from the support line positions through heavy shell fire to the Battalion Transport lines a distance of approximately 9 miles.'
