'This N.C.O. led his platoon with great dash and skill during the operations at BROODSEINDE RIDGE east of YPRES on 4/5th October, 1917. He did excellent work throughout the attack, keeping his men well together, and on arriving at his objective he showed great skill in the selection of his position and concealment of his platoon.'
