When a battery on the forward slope was being heavily shelled, the officers and most of the gunners being killed or wounded, this N.C.O. led this squad up at the double, collected the wounded and carried them to comparative safety. After dressing their wounds he helped his squad to carry them to motor loading post. He undoubtedly saved the lives of the wounded by his quickness and recource'

Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty about 4.00 a.m. on 19th September 1918 South of LE VERGUIER and East of PERONNE. While attached to R.M.O. 46th A.I. Battalion this N.C.O. with his squad continuously carried through very heavy enemy shell fire, and although hit several times by flying fragments of shell, by his fine example to his other bearers, kept them steadily to their work, and was mainly instrumental in quickly getting the wounded safely to the Loading Post, many times under heavy shell-fire. During the period of 18th September 1918 to 20th September, 1918 his conduct and disregard to personal danger was markedly noticeable.'
