While attached to R.M.O. 46th A.I. Battalion this N.C.O. with his squad continuously carried through very heavy enemy shell fire, and although hit several times by flying fragments of shell, by his fine example to his other bearers, kept them steadily to their work, and was mainly instrumental in quickly getting the wounded safely to the Loading Post, many times under heavy shell-fire. During the period of 18th September 1918 to 20th September, 1918 his conduct and disregard to personal danger was markedly noticeable.'
