Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT ?Kyarra?, 5 February 1915 (gonorrhoea orchitis); disembarked Melbourne, 11 March 1915. Sent to Broadmeadows for duty.

Re-embarked for active service as 2062, Pte, 6th Bn, 5th Reinforcement, 17 April 1915. Joined 6th Bn at Gallipoli, 17 June 1915.Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 25 August 1915 (enteritis); transferred to Hospital Ship, 27 August 1915 (dysentery); to Florianne Hospital, Malta, 31 August 1915 (diarrhoea); to England, 8 September 1915, and admitted to London War Hospital, Epsom, 15 September 1915; discharged from hospital, 22 November 1915. Embarked Devonport to rejoin the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force with 22nd Draft, 21 February 1916; disembarked Alexandria, 5 March 1916; rejoined unit, Serapeum, 11 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 26 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 2 April 1916.

Admitted to hospital, 15 June 1916; transferred to Divisional Rest Station, and discharged, 18 June 1916 (defective teeth).
