Military Medal 'Whilst in the front line facing QUENAT on night of 21st/22nd May 1917, Private GILLET showed conspicuous courage and coolness during a bombing assault by the enemy. he was in charge of a Lewis Gun in an advanced position when an enemy bombing patrol approached his post. As his company also had a patrol out, GILLET refrained from firing until the enemy was within bombing distance. Although badly wounded in the thigh by a bomb, he continued to resist the enemy till they were repulsed. he remained at his post for 5 hours before being evacuated.'
