Admitted to Military Hospital, Fovant, 17 February 1917 (piles); marched in to 8th Training Bn, Hurdcott, from hospital, 8 April 1917.

Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 18 May 1917; discharged, 1 August 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 76 days.

Proceeded overseas to France, 18 December 1917; taken on strength, 33rd Bn, in the field, 22 December 1917.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 9 April 1918.

Wounded in action, 17 April 1918 (gassed), and admitted to 55th Field Ambulance; transferred to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 19 April 1918; to 72nd General Hospital, Trouville, 22 April 1918; to No 1 Convalescent Hospital, Havre, 4 May 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 9 June 1918.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 25 June 1918 (gassed), and admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station, 26 June 1918; to 49th Casualty Clearing Station, 26 June 1917; discharged to duty, 14 July 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 22 July 1918.
