War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Joined 7th Bn, Gallipoli, 5 August 1915. Tried by Field General Court Martial, Sarpi Camp, Lemnos, 8 October, on charge of being absent without leave, 1600, 2 October, to Tattoo, 4 October 1915; pleaded Guilty; found Guilty: awarded 50 days' Field Punishment No 2; 14 days remitted. Admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance, Sarpi Camp, 28 October 1915 (jaundice); transferred to No 1 Canadian Stationary Hospital; to No 18 Stationary Hospital, Mudros, 29 October 1915 (catarrh and jaundice); to Lowlands Casualty Clearing Station, 5 November 1915; discharged to A&NZ Base Depot, 29 November 1915; rejoined 7th Bn, Gallipoli, 7 December 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 7 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Taken on strength, 59th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 24 February 1916. Absent without leave from Tattoo, 5 March, till 2200, 7 March 1916: remanded for court martial, and automatically forfeited 2 days' pay. Marched in to Australian Overseas Base, Ghezireh, under guard, 7 March 1916; discharged to unit under escort, 8 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Posted missing, 19 July 1916. Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 29 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'.
