Found guilty, 12 July 1916, of disobeying an order in that he was found out of barracks without a pass, 30 June 1917: awarded 2 days' confined to camp.

Admitted to 24th General Hospital, Etaples, 15 July 12916 (measles); marched in to 5th Australian Division Base Depot, 24 July 1916.

Admitted to 26th General Hospital, 9 August 1916 (not yet diagnosed: lung); transferred to No 6 Convalescent Depot, 17 August 1916 (bronchitis); marched in to 5th Australian Division Base Depot, 6 October 1916; taken on strength, 32nd Bn, in the field, 15 October 1916.

Admitted to 8th Field Ambulance, 12 November 1916, and transferred same day to 39th Casualty Clearing Station (measles and tonsilitis); to 11th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 4 December 1916; to No 2 Convalescent Depot, Rouen, 6 December 1916; to 5th Australian Division Base Depot, 10 December 1916; rejoined Bn, in the field, 23 December 1916.

Admitted to 14th Australian Field Ambulance, 14 January 1917 (influenza), and transferred same day to Anzac Corps Rest Station; to 36th Casualty Clearing Station, 22 January 1917; to 8th General Hospital, Rouen, 24 January 1917; to England, 29 January 1917, and admitted to Bath War Hospital, 30 January 1917 (laryngitis); discharged on furlough, 21 February 1917, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 8 March 1917.

Marched in to No 4 Command Depot, 4 March 1917.

Admitted to Military Hospital, Wareham, 27 April 1917 (mumps); discharged to Training Depot, 16 May 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 14 October 1917; taken on strength, 32nd Bn, in the field, 26 October 1917.

Detached to 2nd Army School as batman, 9 February 1918; rejoined Bn, 17 March 1918.

Admitted to 14th Australian Field Ambulance, 29 April 1918 (boils, left leg), and transferred same day to 4th Casualty Clearing Station; to 8th General Hospital, Rouen, 2 May 1918; to No 2 Convalescent Depot, 3 May 1918.

Admitted to 2nd General Hospital, 24 May 1918 (pyrexia); transferred to Convalescent Depot, 26 May 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 18 June 1918.

Wounded in action, 29 September 1918 (gun shot wound, right knee), admitted to 141st Field Ambulance and then transferred to 5th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 25, 30 September 1918, and admitted same day to 6th General Hospital, Rouen; transferred to England, 3 October 1918, and admitted to Central Military Hospital, Weymouth, 4 October 1918 (wounds: severe); discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 15 November 1918.

Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 13 December 1918.

Found guilty, 16 December 1918, of being absent without leave from 1500, 12 December, to 1600, 13 December 1918: admonished, and forfeited 2 days' pay.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Karmala', 2 January 1919; disembarked Fremantle, 8 February 1919, for onward travel to Adelaide by HT 'Morvada'; discharged (medically unfit: gun shot wound, right knee), Adelaide, 5 April 1919.
