American Distinguished Service Medal "This N.C.O. displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on the BEAUREVOIR TRENCH SYSTEM south of BEAUREVOIR on the 3rd October 1918. He was in charge of a Lewis Gun Team in the Right Flank. By the skilful handling of his Gun, under withering Machine Gun fire, completely silencing it and enabling the Attacking Troops on our Right to advance with a minimum of casualties. Later during the consolidation, he personally supervised the placing of the Lewis Guns on his Company Front in spite of fierce enemy fire. His work throughout was of the highest order and his fighting spirit during these operations was of the greatest value to the success of his company."
