Military Medal

'Showed great gallantry and devotion to duty while in action near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. He was in charge of an advanced post and by careful organisation, was able to get onto several enemy parties assembling for local counter attack and disperse them with Lewis gun and rifle fire. Always alert and untiring in his work, he set an excellent example to his comrades and his marked coolness and cheerfulness greatly impressed and steadied all the men around him. He is an N.C.O. deserving of high award.'

Bar to Military Medal

'Displayed great leadership and conspicuous gallantry in action near HAMEL WOOD, east of CORBIE, on 4th July, 1918. This N.C.O. was in charge of the extreme left section of the Battalion during the attack, and showed great judgment and coolness in leading his Section. He led his Section right on to the final objective with great accuracy despite the fat that strong opposition was met with all the way. In consolidating his section of the line when the final objective was reached, he proved himself a very capable organiser. His work throughout was of the highest order, and richly deserves recognition. He was awarded the Military Medal on the 29th September, 1917, for gallantry at ZONNEBEKE.'
