War Service: Enlisted 5 November 1914. Returned to Australia 26 May 1915 (VD). Discharged to duty 14 June 1915. Struck off strength as a deserter 20 March 1916. Re-enlisted as No 22130, 3rd Army Motor Transport Company, 17 January 1916. Re-embarked for service overseas 20 May 1916. Taken on strength of the 3rd Divisional Artillery Column, England, 5 October 1916, and proceeded overseas. He was charged with using insubordinate language to a NCO; awarded 7 days Field Punishment No. 2, 24 December 1916. 2 June 1917 "while on active service, absent from camp without permission. Forfeits 4 days pay." He went on leave to the UK on 16 February 1918, and rejoined his unit on 2 March 1918. On 12 March 1918, he was taken on strength of the 3rd Australian Divisional Motor Transport Company. Married Mary BROWN at Liverpool, England, on 21 July 1919. Marched out to Headquarters, London, 11 August 1919. Proceeded on indefinite leave awaiting family ship 22 September 1919. Returned to Australia 10 February 1920. Discharged TPE 21 April 1920.
