Military Medal 'During the attack on POZIERES RIDGE on 4th/5th August, 1916, this man was a runner attached to his Company Commander in the front line. He carried out his duties most diligently under very difficult circumstances. He carrried many messages between the captured German trenches and Battalion Headquarters through an intense artillery fire. As most of the runners were casualties his duties were extremely heavy as well as extremely dangerous throughout.'
